A queer person wrote a queer novel and it was used against him in criminal court. He was convicted of gross indecency and sentenced to years of hard labour that he never recovered from, and died a couple years later. We're talking about a book that has context: important context to an oppressed minority. So yes, removing that context is hateful and contributes to queer erasure.
