Academia ≠ journalism. Books can be published by whoever, with or without peer review and rigour. Academic articles are supposed to set higher standard and therefore be more trustworthy. The problem with “publish or perish” is it treats academic writing (slow) like news reporting (fast). I’m not saying the problem isn’t also happening in journalism—both short form/news and long form investigative journalism. But the two aren’t the same thing.
