Amazon’s “verified purchase” system helps, but Goodreads is still totally unregulated. But if you buy a book from another source or get it from the library, how can you prove you read it? Scan a barcode? It’s a real puzzle how they’re going to solve this, but you’re right—for the review model to mean anything (and thus survive) there needs to be some way of weeding out AI and bots.
