Chaucer and Shakespeare both use the singular they!

…g and usage, including a period in the 18th century when grammarians declared it to be plural only. However, that rule was never maintained by the population at large.

Chaucer and Shakespeare both use the singular they! Also, Jesus uses the singular they in the KJV translation of the Bible (Matthew 18:35). Just saying!
