I keep my poetry and flash fiction (under 1k words) unmetered as a matter of pride. I was those things to be read, and they are the least likely things to go viral or get a lot of attention, so limiting their audience is counter-intuitive. I've also found that keeping some content open access leads to better engagement and more reads of my metered work, too--it draws in members, but also maybe nonpaying members who later become paying members? I write poetry for fun, not to make money, so it all works out. Longer articles that I spend a lot of time on, however, I meter, so that I can get paid for my labour as a writer, even if it is a very small amount.
