I'm Canadian, currently in Denmark but I taught Year 4s when I lived in Ireland (12-year-olds). I had to do tons of safeguarding training and was a mandated reporter, even though I was only with them one hour per week. Safeguarding was taken pretty seriously there, and I think it was in Canada too, although I've never taught in Canada. The thing that baffles me about the US is how much variability there is from state to state with laws, training, education quality, and permissibility.
