I'm sorry to hear that was your experience at a meet-up! I did a few write-ins when I was a teenager living in Canada, but everyone who came was really nice and supportive. There were a couple of guys, but it was also mostly women, and everyone was respectful. I hate when creeps infiltrate spaces that are meant to be safe and open for everybody. It's probably a really widespread problem that is dealt with by MLs on the ground rather than the org itself. The forums, though, really need to have better supervision, especially when kids are interacting with adults. It's so easy for that kind of situation to be hidden from view, whereas at least with public meet-ups there are presumably multiple people there who can step in if there's something bad happening.
