So much of the hate against fanfiction seems to be the same kind of hate as comes from hardcore nerd dudes against "fake gamer girls" and women / minorities / queer people liking the same stuff they do. It's often steeped in misogyny or racism, in my experience-- demeaning an artform for being "illegitimate" because it's associated primarily with women or minorities...
