There were a lot of cool things about the 50s. Postwar economic boom; job security; strong social programs; incentives; low rent, easy mortgages; good jobs; innovation; sustainable food and shopping; golden age of music and arts; fashion; prosperity. But all of this was for white, straight people. For all the "fun" things about the 50s in the media, they forget the abject poverty, racism, homophobia, sexism, transphobia, violence against women, violence against minorities, race riots, capital punishment. It's okay to be nostalgic for the aesthetic of the 50s, or for certain specific things we could get back (like social programs!) to, but don't take it out of context. The 50s were really bad a for a whole lot of people.
