Unfortunately “important” men often get away with a lot. When you have money, fame, or significance, people will overlook atrocities if it means continuing to enjoy their brand/product/music/science. Remember when Chris Brown was briefly “cancelled” for beating the hell out of Rihanna? And then he just made more music and people were cool with him again? R. Kelly too. Convicted sex offender, yet still hugely popular. It’s disgusting.

I remember we made jokes about the accusations against Michael Jackson when I was in elementary school… “Why is Michael Jackson like an XBox? They’re both made of plastic and get turned on by little boys!” … but nothing really meaningful was ever done about it, and I now feel so bad for the children who had to grow up watching their trauma become a joke and their abuser still being called “the King of Pop.”
