You're not paying to support other writers. You're paying to read their work. That's a service they provide. You are getting a good (value) for the fee you pay.

Here's an example: You're a chef at a restaurant. Your service is cooking burgers for people, and you get paid for that. One day, you decide to visit another restaurant and buy dinner there. Their specialty is pizza. You eat the food, you pay, you send your compliments to the chef for making excellent pizza. If the chef doesn't come to your restaurant tomorrow and pay to eat your burgers, would you be mad? That's the scenario here. Just because someone is providing a service (cooking the food) doesn't mean they should have to eat at other people's restaurants. There are enough hungry people to eat at both restaurants, even if the pizza chef never eats out.
